Root canal treatments are the most commonly performed endodontic treatment, and probably the most well-known too. Here at Diamond Dental Care, our team know that the treatment has something of a misguided reputation, but when being treated by us here, you’re in good hands.
Root canal treatments are used to treat infection and inflammation in the interior of the tooth – also known as the dental pulp. This can become infected for a variety of reasons, including tooth decay, gum disease, and injury or trauma to the face. If left untreated, this can lead to an abscess and even the loss of the tooth.
Root canal treatments can usually take place over just one appointment. In more advanced and complex cases, however, you may have to return for up to two more appointments. During the treatment we’ll remove any infection in the interior of the tooth and clean the inside of the roots, before sealing them up to prevent further infection. In some cases, a crown may be needed in order to restore the tooth to full function, but this depends on the extent of the damage present.
We know root canal treatments have a reputation for being painful and somewhat scary. However, there is absolutely no need to be worried! Modern technology and techniques, combined with our team’s high level of skill and gentle approach mean you’ll be comfortable throughout. Our OPG machine means we can take an X-ray of the entire mouth without the use of plastic or bitewings, meaning that even at the diagnostic stages, you’ll be in complete comfort. We’ll also administer local anaesthetic at the beginning of the treatment, which means you won’t feel a thing at the area being treated.
