At Diamond Dental Care, our expert orthodontics team can help our patients straighten their smiles with metal braces.

Metal braces remain one of the most popular ways to achieve a straighter smile. Promising great results in a cost-effective manner, metal braces can realign a misaligned smile and can be used to address almost any and all issues or concerns with alignment, overcrowding, and protrusion.

How do metal braces work?

The braces are fixed to the front of the teeth, connected together via wires which use a gentle force to move the teeth into the desired position.

Are they removable?

No, unlike aligners, metal braces are not removable except by a qualified orthodontist.

Can children wear metal braces?

Yes, we’re able to apply metal braces to both children and adult patients, helping them to achieve a straighter smile more easily.

Are metal braces painful?

Metal braces can take a bit of getting used to, and the pressure from the wires can cause some discomfort, especially when you first start wearing them. There can also occasionally be some irritation from the brackets and wires, but for the most part patients do not experience too much discomfort, and almost all agree that it is worth it once they see their new, straighter smile!

How long does the treatment take?

The full length of each treatment will depend on the individual patient. Teeth move at different rates, and the duration of the treatment will be different depending on where the teeth are positioned at the beginning of the treatment. Most patients wear their braces for between 12 and 24 months.

Will I have to come into the practice during the treatment?

Yes, wearing metal braces does require you to come into the practice so that we can assess your progress and adjust the wires as the teeth move.

Do metal braces require extra oral health care?

You will have to take even greater care of your oral health while wearing metal braces. We’ll let you know how to do this during an appointment here with us at the practice, but you will have to use a special brush to remove food and debris and clean behind the brackets.

Will I have to wear a retainer after?

As with all orthodontic treatments, we do recommend wearing a retainer once your metal braces have been removed. This is so your teeth don’t move back to their original position, and so you can maintain your straighter smile.
