Get the smile you want while helping to renew and restore your oral health with implant retained dentures at Diamond Dental Care.

Implant retained dentures offer up an alternative to more traditional dentures, and are designed to replace up to a whole arch of teeth that may be missing or damaged beyond repair. More stable and comfortable than traditional dentures, implant retained dentures also have the advantage of looking more natural in the mouth, enhancing and even improving a smile.

How do implant retained dentures work?

Implant retained dentures work in a similar way to traditional dentures, but while traditional dentures are held in place by an adhesive, implant retained dentures are held in place via implants in the jaw. The prosthetic teeth are then clipped in on top of them.

What is the treatment process like?

We’ll first have to find out if you’re suitable for the treatment or not, as implants require a certain amount of healthy jaw to be present. We’ll do this with an X-ray or CT scan as well as a full consultation where we’ll go over your oral health history with you. Thanks to our OPG machine, you’ll be comfortable from the get-go, as we’re able to X-ray the entire mouth without the use of uncomfortable bitewings or plastic.

Once we’ve established that this is the right treatment for you, your implants will be applied first. This will be done under local anaesthetic so you don’t feel a thing in the area being treated, and are comfortable and pain-free throughout. Once they have been applied, there’ll be a wait of a few months while the implants and jawbone successfully fuse together. We’ll be able to offer you temporary dentures at this point, and you’ll come back in to have your personal dentures applied.

How long does the treatment take?

Receiving implant retained dentures can take a few months and several trips to the practice.

Is it painful?

During the treatment, you’ll receive a local anaesthetic so you don’t feel a thing. There may be some discomfort afterwards, once the anaesthetic has worn off, but you should be able to treat this with over-the-counter painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol.
