At Diamond Dental Care, we practice preventive care for our patients, trying to avoid and minimise the need for intervention as much as possible. The bedrock of this preventive care is dental hygiene, as dental hygiene directly impacts oral health and proper dental hygiene can help prevent future problems from occurring.
Not only does good dental hygiene help your smile look better, and your mouth feel fresher, but it can also help prevent tooth decay and gum disease from occurring. We want to try and prevent these as much as possible as both can lead to the need for interventions and treatments, as well as further issues if left untreated.
Gum disease is the most commonly diagnosed disease in Europe, and the leading cause of tooth loss. It’s caused by a bacterial infection which in turn leads to inflammation of the gums. Symptoms of gum disease include bleeding gums, – including after brushing your teeth – swollen or inflamed gums, bad breath, and gums that have changed colour to a bright or dusky red or purplish colour.
The good news is that gum disease is very preventable. Good, regular oral care and hygiene can help prevent this common disease from ever occurring. That’s why we help our patients develop at-home care routines that work for them, as well as encourage and recommend regular trips to our skilled dental hygienist.
Our hygienist will do a full review of your teeth and the condition of your gums before providing a comprehensive cleaning that will be able to clean and refresh areas of your mouth you simply can’t reach at home. We also recommend Airflow Tooth Polishing at hygiene appointments as it is gentle yet incredibly effective at removing tartar and plaque. By the end of the appointment, your mouth will be feeling fresher than ever, and your smile will look bright and happy again.
