Crowns sit over the top of a tooth like a cap and can help restore and repair a damaged tooth. They are also sometimes used alongside other treatments, to help fully restore a tooth or teeth and prevent further damage from occurring.

Why do I need a crown?

Crowns are most commonly used to repair a tooth that has become damaged in some way, usually due to injury, decay, wear and tear, or a leaking filling. We also sometimes use them in conjunction with other treatments such as bridges and root canal treatments, and they can also be used to address cosmetic damage to a tooth such as discoloration.

What are crowns made of?

In the past, crowns have mostly been made from a precious metal such as gold. While these are highly durable and offer great protection, they are more noticeable. More recently, materials such as porcelain and Zirconia have been used to make crowns. These are tooth coloured and fit almost seamlessly in with the rest of the mouth, making sure no one but you (and your dentist!) know they are there.

How long does the treatment take?

Placing a crown usually takes two or more appointments. We’ll take digital scans of your mouth and prepare the tooth or teeth during the first appointment, and there’ll be a short wait while your crown is being made for you. Once ready, you’ll have it fitted back here at the practice and you’ll be able to leave with your new, happy smile.

Are there any alternatives to a crown?

Depending on what you need a crown for, there might be an alternative treatment that’s more suitable for you. For example, an onlay can offer a less invasive alternative to a crown, while those looking to address only cosmetic issues may want to think about veneers. Always very pleasant and helpful reception staff. And the premises are spotless but also comfortable tooMahbub is meticulous in his hygienist processes and always tells me what he finds as he works and how I should best improve my oral health.He is very careful too to make sure I am comfortable during all the processes especially where some of my teeth and gums are a little sensitive.

Absolutely love this practice with dip and colgate his dental nurse. Feel so relaxed and at ease not like being at the dentist. Have had dental implants and with the advice from dip I'm over the moon with the results and aftercare.

I contacted Diamond Dental because I was in a lot of pain with a tooth that needed extraction. I had spoken to my dentist of 35 years and they offered me an appointment in 3 weeks. The only reason I still had the troublesome tooth was because they had cancelled an emergency appointment a while back. The whole team at DD were professional and helpful from the first phone call. I was seen the same day and the dentist, Yanisha, was a true professional and also had a lovely friendly manner explaining everything and putting me at ease. Excellent service and a good price too. I strongly recommend !

I received a very professional service from start to finish at this clinic. I was seen by Neel Sethi who did a thorough check and explained the filling treatment that I needed. He was very gentle and I did not feel any discomfort or pain during the whole process. He even showed me before and after photos, which I had not experienced at any other clinic. I felt totally at ease and will go back to Neel for any future checks and treatments.

Amazing service. The staff I have met are all super friendly.I could not have asked for a better experience. Tayla at the desk was really welcoming, and during the actual appointment Andrea and Corinne gave me the best treatment.
