Ceramic braces work in a similar way to traditional metal braces but are made of a ceramic material that is able to better blend in with the teeth, making for a much more subtle and less noticeable finish.
Yes, like metal braces, ceramic braces are fixed – i.e. not removable – to the teeth, and can only be attached and removed by an orthodontist.
Ceramic braces are just as effective as metal braces at achieving results.
At Diamond Dental Care, we’re able to offer ceramic braces to both children and adults.
While some patients will experience some discomfort when the braces are first applied the brackets are designed to produce less friction and rubbing which reduces the chances of irritation and increases your comfort.
Ceramic braces, while being far less noticeable than traditional metal braces, are not invisible. People will be able to tell you’re wearing them, although they are fairly subtle, for a more ‘invisible’ experience, you may want to consider aligners such as Invisalign.
This varies from patient to patient, but in most cases, treatment with ceramic braces takes 12 months to two years.
Wearing fixed braces of any kind does mean taking extra care of your dental and oral hygiene. You’ll need to use special brushes to make sure you’re removing food and debris properly, and there are some foods you may want to avoid altogether. We’ll be able to go through all this during an appointment with us here.
We always recommend wearing a retainer after orthodontic treatment, as without one your teeth can move back to their original position – and we want to help you keep your happier, straighter smile.
